Boston, Lincolnshire, is known as an important medieval market town and major port with links to Europe and America. In this book, the authors examine the development of the town and its distinctive character and describe its expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Issues arising from the town’s physical isolation from other population centres, a low-wage agricultural economy and 1970s redevelopment are discussed, before reviewing the effects from the heritage perspective of recent regeneration projects.
Illustrated with over 100 photographs, drawings and maps include those of St Botolph’s Church (The Stump), Maud Foster 5-sailed windmill, Fydell House, Cammack’s furniture store, Gothic period Unitarian Chapel, 15th century Pescod Hall and Shodfriars.
