Description

The Great War 1914 – 1918 was a war that touched families from all over the world and almost every family in Britain.  This small volume of verse was written to mark the centenary of World War One and published in November 2014.

The verses contained within it are based on the experiences of Percy Cawkwell, RAMC Stretcher Bearer and Medical Orderly during the years of conflict.  Percy kept a diary which has been published as Corky’s War.

The author was a Battlefields Tour Guide in the 1990s so has visited the many memorials to The Missing in Northern France and Western Belgium.  The names on the Grand Memorials of Thiepval on The Somme and The Great Menin Gate at Ypres and on the walls of the cemeteries of Tyne Cot and Loos along with others bear witness to an awful and tragic circumstance.

This work and its companion Corky’s War are dedicated to the memory of all those on all sides who suffered and fell during that catastrophic war.
