This volume looks at: Lincolnshire’s Archaeology from the Air

Presented as a collection of papers, it is a new departure for the National Mapping Programme. 

Much of the landscape of Lincolnshire can be compared to a vast open-air food factory.  As a consequence of this intense agricultural regime, the field archaeology of the county has suffered gradual, and in some cases extremely serious erosion over the past fifty years.  These complex landscapes, so many of which are invisible to the observer on the ground, are revealed through the techniques of aerial survey and covers areas of the Lincolnshire Wolds, Marsh and Fens.

This collection is an attempt to provide the people of Lincolnshire with an appreciation of the archaeological resources that surround them and to throw a little more light on the history of their county.  The variety of air photo information covers all periods and all the landscape zones in the county.
