Description
In the natural order of things Joe Smith, born into the family of a Lincolnshire farm worker, in 1903 could have expected to live, work and die on a farm. In fact he retired from the post of Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Political Economy in the University of Aberdeen in 1968. How this came about is the substance of this autobiographical story. Looking at the life of farm workers in the days of the First World War until by a mixture of luck, determination and hard work, struggling in worlds he did not at first understand, Joe managed eventually to achieve a 1st class honours degree in Economics and Agricultural Economics.
