The title ‘Rumours of Roman Finds’ is a phrase of Charles Phillips whose 1933 and 1934 article in the Archaeological Journal laid much of the groundwork for the study of Roman Lincolnshire. This volume arises from the Roman Lincolnshire Conference organised by Mark Williams and held at the University of Lincoln on 25 June 2005.
What is offered here may stand as a further update on significant recent discoveries and research. In general through the introduction of some broader themes, rather than an exhaustive list of sites investigated though as there are many). In 2008 it was recorded that there were 9428 investigations encountering Roman remains – 533 for the Lincolnshire districts.
Chapters include: Roman Forts in Lincolnshire; The use of Gold in late Iron Age and Roman Lincolnshire; Archaeological Investigations at the New Police Station, Boston Road, Sleaford.
