Winceby and the Battle
£6.95
Description
This is a serious study of a neglected major engagement in the Civil War (in which Oliver Cromwell played a major role) without ignoring its effect on the ordinary country folk of Lincolnshire not only in Winceby but in Boston and the village of Stickney also.
Bolingbroke Castle, at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, the remains of which were excavated in the 1960s, is shown, and can be seen, as the substantial stronghold that it was: the need to render it ineffective if Parliament was to be secure in Lincolnshire can well be seen.
