Romans, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings – for the School Curriculum
£3.50
Description
This book is primarily designed to provide teachers with support in the fulfilment and achievement of the programmes of study for history. It was published in 2000 when likely to prove particularly useful to teachers of Key Stage 2 (KS2) history although material could be very relevant for Key Stage 1, as well as those studying the Roman Empire as part of KS3.
Pupils in their history curriculum are encouraged to focus on chronological understanding, interpretation, historical enquiry based on sources of information such as artefacts, historical buildings and visits to museums, galleries and sites as well as on the skills of communicating history. This book contributes directly to developing those competencies as well as more general issues such as citizenship, thinking skills, financial capability and education for sustainable development.
Particularly relevant would be the requirement for KS1 pupils to “learn how the past is different from the present”. KS2 pupils would gain an overview of how British society was shaped by the movement and settlement of different peoples in the period before the Norman conquest as well as an in-depth study of how British society was affected by the period of history covered in this book, looking at roads, villas, towns and local history during this time.
