Lincoln Cathedral Cloister Bosses
£0.00
Description
A visitor to the Lincoln Cloisters will find that the aesthetic quality of the carved oak roof bosses is immediately appreciable and that the naturalistic style, although containing certain anomalies, is comprehensible. The subject matter is a more difficult. If the visitor is familiar with the principal themes of Christian imagery some subjects will be readily recognised, but many will still appear to be mysterious and fantastic.
Of the original one hundred roof bosses, one in each of its bays, there are now just sixty remaining. These bosses fall into five categories: religious and secular figures, heads, animals and foliage.
This guide seeks to facilitate a better understanding and appreciation of the bosses.
