A series of unexpected events led to the survey (during the late winter and the spring of 1990) of a rescue excavation which was mounted to examine and record a remarkably intact Bronze Age round barrow at Deeping St Nicholas, Lincolnshire.
It proved to be a fascinating and complex undertaking …not one barrow but two… and not just a barrow but a funerary progression outlining changes in burial and memorial traditions through the Early and Middle Bronze Ages making this a signal piece of work for Lincolnshire and Fenland Archaeology.
Thanks go to the land owners, Mr an Mrs Grooby as well as members of the team: Crane Beck, Steve Williams, Mark Dymond, Dale and Gary Trimble and Sue Unsworth.
