Swineshead at War begins with a potted history of this Lincolnshire village in the twentieth century which helps any reader familiar with Swineshead or, as a newcomer, to understand the impact the two world wars had on the village and village life. Pamela Southworth has also added, as an Appendix, some fascinating recipes used to feed 'The Men' in the second World War and typical ration allowances.
Though the memorial was dedicated on 7th November 1920, more names have been added over the following years and now displays 64 names.
Pamela provides a detailed, meticulous, guide of all those whose names appear, engraved on Swineshead's memorial. Separating World War One and Two she gives much information about who these men were, their relationship to other family members and, so far as possible, where and when they lost their lives and are buried. With over 40 illustrations (many are reproduced photographs from newspaper reports) this book gives a remarkable insight into the lives of those 'Not Forgotten' men who made the ultimate sacrifice.
