History of Boston Series. No. 11 – Published in 1974.  This is a First Edition.

This work is not intended as an academic text-book history of Boston’s Newspapers, although I believe it to be historically correct in every detail.  Rather I would think of it as a close-up view of the town’s weekly reading matter over the last two and a half centuries, with humorous sidelights on some of the social and political events which involved leading local personalities.

The newspapers mentioned in this booklet include (the first) Boston Gazette & Lincolnshire Advertiser (1810-1832); The Boston Independent (1879-1912); The Lincolnshire Penny News (1857-1859) and The Lincolnshire Standard 1915-the present day. 

The first pictorial publication of its kind ever produced in this country was produced by one of the most renowned Bostonians, Herbert Ingram.  At the age of just 31 he founded the Illustrated London News. 

Please note this book is now rare, and though shows the markings of age (none are worse than this photo), it is brand new and all pages are in very good condition.
