A public event is to be held at the Black Sluice, Boston on March 20th 2009 to celebrate the opening of the new lock - part of the Fens Waterway link and will open up a section of waterway from the River Haven into the South Forty Foot Drain which has been inaccessible to boats for more then 40 years.
There will be new boat moorings, cycle routes and a very attractive cafe and visitor centre housed in the two renovated lock cottages.
This is part of the ongoing project to open up over 240km of waterways to create a new circular route for recreation, tourism and the environment. It will connect Boston, Lincoln, Peterborough, Ely, Spalding, Crowland and Ramsey.
