Lawrence of Arabia (T E Lawrence) has a hidden Lincolnshire history
Although immortalised in the classic 1962 film of the same name he suffered terrible mental scars from his wartime experiences and chose to live his life as faraway from any limelight as possible. He took a new name and after being posted to RAF Cranwell in 1925 he spent much ofhis free time exploring the county on his beloved Brough motorcycle – specially made for him and capable of topping 100 mph (he owned 8 different Broughs during his lifetime). He died in 1935 and there is now an exhibition in the National Civil War Centre in Newark.
