In 1842 Pishey Thompson returned to Boston, England from Washington, USA, where he had been domiciled for over 20 years. Bankrupt and impoverished, dependent on his wife's relatives; this is the daily record of the Thompson's return crossing of the Atlantic (as many weeks as it now taken in hours by air) and of his activities in England and America, over some 18 months in the 1840s.
This is a primary source record of what life was like, for one man at least, in Britain and America in the 1840s.
