Molly Burkett is one of the writers of the Once Upon a Wartime Series of which this book is No. 18.
She started collecting stories from people who were children during the war and is particularly interested in how the war time years affected their lives. These are some of their stories and include a little girl from Westcliff on Sea who felt the world had stopped the day she couldn't see any boats from her bedroom window – they had all gone off to Dunkirk. A Polish family that had to leave a brother and father behind when sent to Siberia, to freezing conditions and later moved on again now to Persia where at least it was much warmer. Stories from the childhood memories of children from around the world including India, Canada, Germany and an orphanage.
