A reprint of Bartholomew Howlett’s beautifully illustrated book of Lincolnshire.
This rare book gives a fascinating insight of Lincolnshire in the late 1790s. Howlett collected a wide range of drawings of churches, great houses, landscapes and ruins by artists such as Espin, Girtin and Nattes and engraved them for publication in this impressive book. The book is divided into the three parts of the county, Lindsey, Kesteven and Holland, and 53 full page engravings are presented covering locations from Barton on Humber down to Crowland.
Each engraving is accompanied by a short historical or topographical account of the subject. In addition there are 25 delightful vignettes which cover a fascinating range of subjects
from landscapes to antiquities. Howlett’s colour map “engraved in a novel and elegant manner” as the frontispiece has been included in the reprint.
