A farm shop in Lincolnshire has been named as the best in the Midlands in a BBC competition. The eatery at Doddington Hall, near Lincoln, came out on top after the rigorous search by the BBC Good Food Show team to find the best deli or farm shop.
A variety of local and international produce is served up at the shop, which has its own kitchen garden. The judges were particularly impressed by the range of fresh produce that was generated by the Doddington Hall team.
Doddington Hall have received a free-of-charge stand to promote their business and sell their products to tens of thousands of food lovers at the BBC Good Food Show. The winter event is taking place between November 28 and December 2.
The judging panel included Steve Clark, the show director, Katy Truss, manager of Producers' Village at the show and Barney Desmazery, Good Food Magazine food editor who said: "This was such an exciting contest to judge. We had a great range of applications from all over the Midlands but Doddington Hall really stood out to me because of the Kitchen Garden and the fact that a lot of the produce is made on the estate. It's a fantastic service for local shoppers and we're really excited to see what they will bring to the Show." Judges from the show and the magazine were looking at several factors, including the range of international and local produce, the diversity of food, appearance and layout, food ethics, individuality and customer service.
The midlands regional boundaries included Derbyshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire.
BBC Good Food Show is a joint venture between BBC Worldwide Limited and BBC Haymarket Exhibitions.
