Lincoln Cathedral is celebrating with an exhibition in the Cathedral Library 23rd May ? 30 July 2011
The King James Bible is as important for the English language as Shakespeare's verse. While Shakespeare's plays are still performed today, the King James Bible gave way to modern translations for reading in churches during the past fifty years. Young people now have little or no direct knowledge of this beautiful work of literature. Yet they may know phrases from it such as ' the love of money is the root of all evil'; 'by the skin of my teeth'; 'a sign of the times'; 'suffer fools gladly' ? the list goes on. Chances are that a familiar phrase in everyday use derives either from Shakespeare of the King James Bible.
